Trauma

Hypnotherapy for Trauma and PTSD in Taunton

Often profound events that shatter our sense of security and make us feel helpless, alone, fearful and vulnerable can cause long-lasting emotional and psychological trauma.

And the truth is that no amount of hypnotherapy or counselling can help unless the root cause of the trauma is dealt with.

Trauma can be caused by a one-off event, car accident, sustained relentless stress, childhood abuse (emotional, sexual and physical) and other acts or periods of abuse, such as rape and so much more. And the nature of trauma is such that the more helpless the event makes you feel, the more likely you are to be traumatised by it.

My hypnotherapy for trauma sessions are specifically designed to deal with trauma you may have suffered in the past and may be suffering now. Through hypnosis, i work with you to allow you to reconcile the event and move beyond it.

Trauma is a product of a part of the brain called the Amygdala which triggers our fight or flight response when we’re faced with a perceived threat or danger. When activated to fulfil that part of its job, the Amygdala puts us on constant watch and our stress response is fully engaged.

Suffering a traumatic event in life makes us vulnerable emotionally, if not physically, and the Amygdala is instinctively activated, keeping a constant silent watch for any threat that a traumatic event may be repeated.

At its worst, our stress response is at maximum all day, every day – and that’s not good for us either mentally or physically.

Left unaddressed, it causes a breakdown of the immune system and can lead to physical exhaustion. Not only that, but trauma keeps us rooted in the past and stops us from moving on with our lives.

For those suffering from trauma, it can often be very challenging to separate the past from the present because our brain is in protective mode, maintaining a strong link with what has gone before in order to shield us from what might happen in the future.

Hypnotherapy allows you to feel safe and confident in meeting that challenge in a way that is most effective for you as an individual.

I understand that at the point you are considering hypnotherapy in order to deal with the issues that trauma is causing you now, the event or events which triggered them are likely to still be very raw, no matter how long in the past they occurred, but if you don’t want to tell me or find difficult to talk about the event or events that’s ok, I don’t need to know.

Hypnotherapy works with you to heal the parts of you that experienced the shock and pain of trauma and by using hypnosis to release and clear the toxic and frightening messages you received take away the emotion attached to the event or events , you can move on with your life as a strong and self-assured adult.

Everyone has their own unique emotional response which means trauma can manifest itself in different ways – for example through intense fear, drug and alcohol dependency, eating disorders, depression, social and emotional withdrawal, flashbacks, anxiety and feelings of continued helplessness.

And because your response is unique, so is the hypnotherapy I provide. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to hypnotherapy – my sessions are tailored to your specific situation, ensuring your experience of hypnotherapy is an entirely personal one.

For many years, severe anxiety-based conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, Anxiety or phobias were considered treatable only through long, painful exposure therapy, and in some cases, not at all.

Now, thankfully, we have access to a comfortable, effective treatment that can greatly reduce and even remove traumatic symptoms quickly.

Sometimes, we all need a bit of help. We could have a problem that we just can’t seem to fix on our own. Perhaps an addiction, trauma or even a bout of depression and, for any one of these reasons (and indeed many others), a trip to a fully qualified hypnotherapist could be just what’s needed.

The number of sessions depends on the client and the nature of what we are looking to correct.
